COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT REPORTS Outreach/Media / Communications/Media Workgroup REPRESENTATION
M embers represented in this group included: juvenile justice, victims’ assistance, corrections, job services, and Commission on Children and Families.FUNCTION T his group worked toward producing various products identifying the function, process, and purpose of the Comprehensive Strategy to the public, "selling" the Comprehensive Strategy to the greater community, and educating and updating key leaders, stakeholders and the public about the work of the Comprehensive Strategy.PROCESS T he Outreach group was one of the only groups to meet from the very beginning through the end of the Comprehensive Strategy process. Their goal was to keep partners and the community at large informed and aware of the Baker County Comprehensive Strategy, purpose importance, and progress. The first step for the group was to design a brochure that provided enough information for a person to gain some understanding of the Comprehensive Strategy, even without previous knowledge of its history or purpose. What resulted was a brochure of such quality that other Comprehensive Strategy counties used it as a model for their brochures. Throughout the process, members of this group visited with local committees and organizations about the Comprehensive Strategy. One member was the guest on a local radio talk show whose audience consists of listeners in three counties. The importance of this committee was proven when a local workgroup of county citizens, organizing a new committee, turned to the Comprehensive Strategy work and outcomes to assist them in their work after having been informed of the project by a Outreach member.
The Baker County Comprehensive Strategy has a website as a result of the connections of one Outreach member. The website http://bccompstrat.itgo.com not only provides an abundance of information on the Comprehensive Strategy, but is linked to OJJDP, Baker County, Baker City, and Baker County Chamber of Commerce websites. Upon completion of the Five-Year Strategic Plan, it will be accessible via the website. The Outreach group will also be charged with presenting the Executive Summary to groups such as The Mayor’s Council, Baker County Commissioners, City Councils, and school boards. |
